Teaching Assistant

EPIC is searching for a crew of part time Teaching Assistants after growing its student base. You’ll be responsible for creating exciting and welcoming energy for our studentry, boosting their self confidence and fostering a love of their classmates, community and learning overall. If people say you have WAY too much positivity and energy, this job is for YOU.

This is the ideal entry position for folks just starting out in the field of special education–particularly for college students with the interest of eventually becoming special education teachers as EPIC strongly believes in promoting from with in. Folks who stick with us for the full year will likely be offered full time roles come years end.

Responsibilities below:

  • Bring the hype! (aka get students excited about enrichment activities by showing excitement yourself)
  • Create fun and engaging games that will bring students together during recess while also sneaking them mini social skills lessons to help them make friends
  • Support students’ academic and socioemotional development both 1: 1 and in small groups
  • Provide behavior support independently at recess and at the guidance of enrichment teachers during the periods they lead
  • Modify your approach to with a specific student at the drop of a hat based on the direction of lead teachers (they’ve been working with these kids for a long time and might not have time to explain the reason for the pivot until later!)
  • Participate in student case conferences, providing thoughtful analysis regarding each students successes and difficulties in the effort to create effective behavior intervention plans
  • Report any and all concerning incidents between students to EPIC’s Head of School daily so that parents can be effectively notified and changes can be made

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to follow direction
  • Ability to lead when necessary
  • Mandatory 1 year commitment to EPIC Academy to ensure stability of our students
  • Must know how to walk the narrow line of firm, fair, and fun with students
  • Driven passion to improve the field of special education
  • Proven record of never giving up on a student

Classroom Intern

EPIC is searching for undergraduate or graduate student interns looking to gain classroom and teaching experience in an innovative education setting. At EPIC, we’re very focused on learning, and we highly value the time commitment of every team member. As an intern, you will NEVER be asked to complete any task that doesn’t further your own professional development. Every task you are assigned will be to further one of the goals listed below or a goal you specify with the team:

  • Improve your professional writing skills both technically and stylistically
  • Learn how EPIC develops and implements various behavior intervention strategies
  • Improve your ability to engage with neurodiverse students at their level, setting them up for success for the rest of their lives
  • Learn the process and practical application of individualized differentiation
  • Understand the difference between effective and ineffective methods of collaboration, and gain experience as a true team player

Hour and Time Commitments of our internships are flexible to work around student schedules.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student
  • Must have a strong desire to become a special education teacher

Administrative Intern

EPIC is searching for undergraduate or graduate student interns looking to gain professional experience in a fast-paced startup setting. At EPIC, we’re very focused on learning, and we highly value the time commitment of every team member. As an intern, you will NEVER be asked to complete any task that doesn’t further your own professional development. Every task you are assigned will be to further one of the goals listed below or a goal you specify with the team:

  • Learn how EPIC develops and implements administrative policy and procedure
  • Gain a working understanding of the company’s financial management
  • Improve your professional writing skills both technically and stylistically
  • Understand EPIC’s approach to professional ethics in the workplace and its practical applications
  • Learn the fundamentals of grass-roots marketing and gain practice in implementing unique marketing strategies
  • Understand the difference between effective and ineffective methods of collaboration, and gain experience as a true team player
